I create anthropomorphic figure sculptures. With these figures, I strive toward sharing a story through the creation of an interesting character. I work to imbue these art doll figures with their human traits in a minimalist manner. I want their personality or humor to emerge through expression and gesture, rather than just being a costumed animal.
My sculptures are primarily needle felted wool over an armature form of wire, and batting. This process involves felting loose wool roving into place using special needles that work the fibers together. The felt that is formed becomes the “skin” and outer texture of each sculpture. Some of my pieces include embroidery, fabrics or or hand created embellishments.
Additionally, I produce gel plate mono-prints. These one-of-a-kind original works are acrylic on paper. Some feature photo-transfer images of my original sculptures, while others are botanical prints from live materials.
