Sally Terrell
I was a high school foreign language teacher for 36 years and was fortunate enough to be able to teach art the last three. I have always been ‘crafty’ – sewing, cross-stitch, quilting. But I did not do any serious art until we moved to North Carolina. At that point I experimented with many mediums. I love felt art and pastels because I was drawn to their vivid colors, but Scratchboard intrigues me the most. I am amazed at what can be created on an inked board with a variety of tools like Xacto knives, tattoo needles, fiber brushes, and sandpaper. It is the perfect medium to play with the values of light and dark to create a very dramatic piece. I enjoy doing animals, especially birds, and scratchboard allows me to present them in a very realistic way. I have fun putting them in unique situations, which I hope makes the viewer smile.
I try to infuse my work with a positive energy, attitude, or message, which I strongly believe impacts the viewer.
