Stacy Crabill Artist Statement
Candy and sweets have dominated my work for years. The colors, shapes, and
packaging of candy have a remarkable power over our senses. I am constantly
exploring the true source of our desire for sugar––how much of this craving comes from our bodies’ physical response, and how much is the result of masterful marketing? Recently, I have brought a new element into my work. Vintage portraits, like candy, bring with them a sense of nostalgia. My work strives to combine all of these seemingly unrelated elements to create a world in which their relationships become connected in a new and surprisingly believable space.
